Starting-Up Roadmap

Implementation Steps to Starting-up Your Children’s Museum

Since you’ve checked out our website – and maybe even requested our resource guides – you’re thinking about (or in the early stages of) starting a children’s museum – Congratulations! This is an important and fulfilling undertaking. Of course, starting a new museum is daunting, and without a roadmap, figuring out the first steps can be especially frustrating. We’ve been hearing from so many of you with the same question: “Where do I start?!”

We feel your struggles! We have either led or helped start up several children’s museums and know how frustrating the start-up process can be. That’s why we want to make it easier for museum founders to navigate the starting up process, from idea to opening. We’ve been asking ourselves the question “Are there tools we can offer that finally provide the roadmap that every start-up founder is looking for?”

Today we’re introducing the process of “implementation planning,” or what we like to call Roadmapping. Implementation planning is a well-tested early step that will give your start-up process a foundation and a roadmap. It activates your next steps and creates guideposts for navigating the start-up process. Most importantly, being intentional with roadmapping from the beginning will give you the edge in realizing the children’s museum of your dreams.

Well, if roadmapping is that easy and that important, why don’t more start-ups do it? The expertise needed for this type of in-depth planning is held by a small number of people who have gone through the start-up process themselves, have a project management focus, or have done other types of large museum projects. Consultants may charge $12,000 or more to go through an implementation planning or roadmapping process for one client.

We know that when it comes to children’s museums, many founders are spending precious time seeking out seed-funding grants and early donations or self-funding their start-up, and so every penny counts! That’s why we’ve been looking into strategies to streamline the planning process, to share our knowledge, and to create more efficiency and direct benefits – so that more start-ups can reap the benefits of roadmapping without breaking the bank.

We’re developing a Roadmapping Seminar for later this spring, to introduce museum founders and dreamers to this process and to provide key implementation insights. In the Roadmapping Seminar, you’ll be able to learn how we’ve simplified the implementation process into essential roadmapping steps that any emerging museum can begin exploring on their own.

Members of our mailing list will receive early-bird notice to register for the Roadmapping Seminar once the date has been set!

But first – we’re looking for your help! As a founder or potential children’s museum founder, your input on some basic questions will help us design a webinar that meets you where you are today and activates your next steps on the path to the children’s museum of your dreams.

By completing our short survey, you can receive a special discount code for the upcoming seminar, and your feedback will help us make the seminar as useful as possible – and help generate even more useful tools to help your future roadmapping.

So please join us in putting our heads together for the benefit of all… Here’s the survey, and we’ll announce the seminar date and discount code very soon! You’ll be one step closer on the roadmap to your museum’s success! Thank you
